Van Campenvaart Playground by Carve « Landezine | Landscape Architecture Works

Landscape Architecture: CarveLocation: the Hague, NetherlandsConstruction: 2010

This new playground is located on an existing lawn and shaped as a folded red blanket with a strong graphic character. By constructing creases between a ramp, several angles are created. The undefined possibilities of the field challenges the boundaries of both partiallydisabled and non-disabled children. Intersecting routes allow children with different abilities to meet and help each other. In the playing-field, different climbing grips and tactile elements have been added, as well as a moving rubber mat. Whisper tubes, a wide slide, a ‘concave’ revolving disc and a hammock create additional play elements.

The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway is a roughly 1.5-mile-long (2.4 km)[1] series of parks and public spaces being created in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, USA. It is the final part of the Big Dig that put Interstate 93 underground and removed the elevated freeway that served as the main highway through downtown for more than 40 years. The Greenway was named in honor of Kennedy family matriarch Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, and officially dedicated on July 26, 2004.

Freeway Parc – Seatle

HISTORY

The idea for a downtown park over the freeway is as old as the Seattle segment of Interstate 5 itself. By the time the last light through the city was completed in 1966, public-spirited individuals and the city, county and state officials were already talking about constructing a lid over the below-grade portion separating first hill from downtown.

With Forward Thrust bond money, as well as county, state and federal funding, the five-acre park became a reality in 1976.

Parsing Peavey – The Architect’s Newspaper

With its sunken plaza and dramatic concrete waterfalls, Peavey Plaza in Minneapolis, designed by M. Paul Friedberg and completed in 1973, is a notable modern landscape that has fallen into disrepair. Located adjacent to the Minneapolis Orchestra Hall and the Nicollet Mall, which was designed by Lawrence Halprin, the plaza could seen new life if the city, working in tandem with the Orchestra, moves ahead with a redesign by the noted local landscape architect Tom Oslund. Not everyone is pleased with the process or the plan however. After initially being involved in the redesign, Friedberg now objects to the plan.
